A Few of My Favorite Things

With 3 babies we use lots and lots of baby products. Some are great, some are so-so, and others I don’t think we could live without. So I thought i would share a few of my favorites! Links on each one too! Mostly to Amazon but you can get these things anywhere! Note: This is my list for NON-MOBILE babies! I’ll do another one once we start moving!

FEEDING

Bugaboo Bliss bottle props. Best thing ever! This is how we feed 3 babies at once. I asked my triplet mom friends what they recommended and the overwhelming majority recommended these. And now I recommend them any time someone asks! They work great and the lady who makes them is great. And she gave me a triplet mom discount! You can order from her Etsy shop here!

Here’s some pictures of my boys using these bottle props:

Dr. Brown’s Pitcher. Another best thing ever! We make lots of bottles so we mix lots of formula. We use a special recipe to add more calories so we couldn’t use a Baby Brezza. This is just as great though. Not super expensive and makes bottle making so much easier and really cuts down our bottle making time! It also mixes all the powder and doesn’t make lots of bubbles.

BABY CARE
Baby Vac. Sounds weird right? Well it is. It’s a booger sucker that attaches to the vacuum. It’s the closest thing to hospital suction that you can get for home. It works so well. Brian tried it on himself too (PSA don’t use it if you have grown man nose hair).

Addison and one of her friends tried it out too! It’s ok to try baby products on our older kid right?

We also have a Nose Frida. This is another snot sucker. This one you suck the boogers out through a straw like thing. Don’t worry it has a filter so the boogers stay away from your mouth! (Addison didn’t know this at first so she thought we were eating baby boogers.)

BECAUSE THEY’RE GREAT AND YOU NEED THEM

WubbanubsOmg you need these if you have a baby. At first I thought they were just cute. I mean they’re adorable. But they also work well! The little animals help keep the paci close to their  mouth when they’re little. When they’re bigger it helps them find the paci and put it in their mouth. It also saves pacis from disappearing behind the bed and other places I don’t care to go. Only 1 of my babies still uses the paci regularly (Mason) but the other 2 still like their wubbanubs! Logan chews on the feet mostly. James uses his as a lovie and also loves the tag. We started with 3 but ended up with 9! You can’t have too many of these things!

It doesn’t get much cuter than this!

Aden+Anais Muslin Blankets. LOVE these! We use them ALL THE TIME. They’re really big but they’re thin enough that I can fold them. I use them in car seats, swings, everywhere really. You can use them to swaddle too but we use Halos for that (see below). I bought lots of these and we use all of them!

FOR PLAY

Sophie the Giraffe. I’m sure you’ve probably heard of Sophie the Giraffe. And you’ve probably thought she’s way to expensive for basically a dog toy. But she’s worth it! We have 3 and we use them every day! One of ours actually broke – squeaker quit squeaking – and the company replaced it for free! You need a Sophie if you don’t have one already. You may need more than 1.

Fisher Price Snugabunny Swing. We have 3 of these and we use them every day. We got one as a gift then I bought 2 more at a consignment sale. These swings go side to side and front to back. We use side to side mostly but when the babies get super cranky I can turn it the other way to distract them. (It works!)

Fisher Price Sit Me Up Seat. We only have 1 of these and we just got it about a month ago but it’s one of my favorites! I wish we had 3! It’s kinda like a bumbo but better. I think it positions babies in a more correct sitting position. It also has toys on it. I called it the magic seat when we first got it because seriously all 3 of my boys really really liked sitting in it.

Play Gym. I don’t know that it matters which one you get on this one. We had this one from Baby Einstein and my boys have loved it since day 1.

Ingenuity Automatic Bouncer. We didn’t get this one until very recently but it makes my list because it’s AMAZING! I actually got to be a product tester for this one. We almost bought an automatic bouncer when the boys were little but didn’t. Now I wish we had! I mean, it bounces by itself! My boys love it! The one we tested isn’t out yet but they have similar ones available on Amazon and at Babies R Us!
Rainforest Jumper. We have 2 of these (only one makes noise unfortunately) but we LOVE them! James especially loves to jump! This is the best jumper that I know of! We have another jumper (Baby Einstein) and we like that one too but it doesn’t jump as well.
Otis likes when the boys jump too!

FOR SLEEP
Halo Sleepsacks. The NICU got us hooked on Sleepsacks and we still use them at 9 months (we swaddle with arms out now). This is one of the best things for sleeping babies! It also helps with fussy babies (like angry Mason when he first came home)! For tiny babies we liked the Swaddle Me swaddles better but we quickly outgrew the newborn size then we liked the halos better.

And here’s how they sleep now:

 Mason
Logan
James – if you look close you can see that he’s holding the tag on his giraffe

Sound Machine. This is one of the keys to sleeping babies (which helps with sleeping mom and dad). We have this one and we love it. We use it EVERY NIGHT.

FOR GETTING OUT

Snap n Go Strollers. Triple strollers are expensive, bulky, and create lots of attention. Triplet moms recommended getting a single and double snap n go stroller so we did. Best decision ever! These strollers are really just frames that you stick the infant carriers in. And they hold pretty much any infant carrier out there. You just strap them in if they don’t snap on. They’re super lightweight and simple too. Brian and I don’t take all 3 babies out alone ever so this works great for us! This also gives us an easy way to take 1 or 2 to dr appointments. Oh and they both fit in the back of my van easily with extra room.

The day we took Mason home!
The single is super lightweight even a baby can push it!
FOR SANITY

Bourbon and Scotch. For the dads of course. Ha! I asked Brian if I forgot anything so this is his contribution to the list.

FOR MOMS

Oreos. A triplet mom staple. This one doesn’t need any more explanation.
Do you have any other amazing baby products to add to this list?

My Sweet Valentines

Happy Valentine’s Day! We had a great day! And because it’s a holiday, we had a photo shoot of course! This post is mostly pictures! Probably everyone’s favorite kind of post!
We had a great day today. We relaxed, played with the boys, went to church. Oh and I ran. It’s been a while and I’m feeling it now but it was great!
Here are some pics from our photo shoot!

James was there too but he wasn’t really in the mood!

We tried to include him still!

My favorite pics are the ones I got of Addison with the boys!
Check out that awesome hair! Ha!
I got a few of Brian with the boys too!

My boys and Addison didn’t forget their mommy on Valentine’s Day! They got me some super sweet gifts!

The best coffee mug ever!
Addison’s picture is a selfie of course!
The boys were also busy at school making my Valentine’s cards! I love them!
And my Secret Sister Triplet Mom sent me a sweet gift too! I was so excited to find my package in the mail after my run! She even remembered Addison! My triplet mom friends are the best!
BTW Go get these Lindor truffles! They’re amazing!
I hope everyone else had a great Valentine’s Day too!

Triplet Baptism

This post is a few months late but I want to share about the boys’ Baptism. Of course we didn’t do this like normal people. Shocking I know!
We had the boys baptized in the NICU early on actually. Monsignor came to the hospital several times during our NICU stay and we asked him to go ahead and baptize the boys when they were still really sick. Mason and Logan were baptized on May 14 right before Logan’s PDA ligation (Mason’s was the next day). James was baptized on May 20. He was still at UAMS when Monsignor came to Children’s to baptize Mason and Logan. Monsignor actually rushed to the hospital for Mason and Logan and we had the surgery team wait so we could do the Baptism first! Monsignor did the blessing with water part of the Baptism in May.
We had our Baptism ceremony on November 30. I can’t remember what Monsignor called it but he did everything except the water part. (This really confused some of the kids who came, including our little neighbor!) Monsignor asked us to do the Baptism during a mass so we did . . . and we sat on the front row with 3 7 month olds! They did great though (and slept through most of it).
Here’s some pictures from the ceremony:
And of course Monsignor called us up to the altar at the end!
I’m terrible and forgot to get pictures of the boys with their godparents! But we decided to have 3 sets of godparents so each of the boys has his own.
  • Mason’s godparents are my sister Lizzie and my brother John
  • Logan’s godparents are our friend Shannon and my brother Joey
  • James’s godparents are Brian’s brother Jason and sister-in-law Katie. They couldn’t be here for the ceremony though so Brian’s sister Stephanie and her husband Cliff are James’s proxy godparents (he gets honorary godparents too so he’s special!)

Then we had a little party at our house. We felt so loved! Thanks to everyone who came to celebrate with us! I didn’t get many pictures either. Actually ALL of these pictures are basically from other people!

Here’s some pics of the boys in their super cute Baptism outfits:

And some outtakes from the group shot (mostly just pics of Mason with his hands in his mouth):
And of course my mom made us take family photos because we were all together. They didn’t turn out great. I look great of course but the rest of my family needs to work on their photogenic-ness (yes that’s a real word in my mind).

And one of my favorite gifts that we’ve received for the boys:
Monsignor surprised us with this a few weeks ago (see it’s a good thing that I waited so long to write this). We were at mass one weekend and Monsignor pulled me aside at Communion and asked me to hang around and see him after mass. I’m not gonna lie I was a little worried! I’ve never been asked to stay after mass to talk to the priest! Ha! Well this was for a good reason as you can tell! Monsignor saved the syringes of sterile water that he blessed and used to baptize the boys in the NICU and he put them in this shadow box for us! I LOVE IT!!!
Thanks for your patience on this post! And thanks everyone who took pictures and sent them to me!

We’re 9 Months Old!!

It’s been a while since I last posted! Sorry! In case you missed the 8 month post (I did it late and didn’t share on Facebook) you can read it here. We’ve had a busy month. I’m sure no one is surprised! This month we had 1 hospitalization, we all got our first stomach virus (mom too), and we started spoon feeding, we stopped oxygen (Finally! Yay!), and we really made some big strides developmentally!
Ok so I’ll try to keep this organized instead of my normal rambling. Let me know how I do.
Back in the Hospital: We ended up back in the hospital. Again. And it was Mason. Again. He caught some type of virus again and needed breathing treatments and suction that we can’t do at home. He also needed supplemental oxygen at night. So we stayed 3 nights this time. Mason was great and he caught up on his reading.
And  he got his first card from a girl! 3 girls in fact! Thanks Sophie, Harper, and Bristol! They’re our triplet girlfriends. They’re identical and soooo cute! And super thoughtful too obviously.
First Spoon Feeds:
That’s right. We eat by spoon now! Even though they boys are 9 months old, we are just now starting spoon feeding (at 6 months adjusted). BUT we started cereal at 8 months/5 adjusted. The weren’t huge fans! Here’s their first time (before pics).

Mason
Logan
James

They’ve gotten better. But not before this happened:

Mason – The Next Gerber Baby! Ha!

Now we have a new fancier way of eating – at our Triplet Table! Thanks Grandad!

They still aren’t fans of cereal. Well, except James. James LOVES cereal!

Now that the boys are 9 months/6 adjusted, we are FINALLY starting veggies! So far we’ve tried sweet potatoes and they love them! Next up – carrots (I think?)
Ok what’s next . . . ?
Monthly update time!
First, monthly stats:
Mason: 14 lbs. 5 oz. (2.8% for adjusted age) and 24.8 inches tall (short)
Logan: 13 lbs. 3.5 oz. (0.4% for adjusted age) and 24.4 inches tall (really short)
James: 14 lbs. 15 oz. (6.4% for adjusted age) and 25.5 inches tall (a little taller but still short)
Ok here’s what everyone is up to! We just went to the newborn clinic on Friday so we have new info! And we have pictures. Lots and lots of pictures!
Mason:

Mason has been sick but he’s a super happy boy! He’s so smiley! And super laid back most of the time! He’s not the biggest anymore either (in case you didn’t read the numbers closely, James has passed him).
What has Mason been up to this month?
Babbling! Mason says dada now! I’m pretty sure he’s really saying adadada though so he isn’t saying dada before mama. Right? That’s what I’m telling myself.
Lots of smiling and cooing!
Mason isn’t rolling but he’s starting to do more. He will jump in the jumper and use his legs to move back and forth so he’s making progress!
Mason was referred to a pulmonologist after his last hospital stay. He has chronic lung disease, which basically means he is more susceptible to getting sick and ending up in the hospital. (Logan has this too and probably worse but he’s stayed out of the hospital luckily). We already had an appointment for Logan so Mason got in really soon. The pulmonologist did a chest x-ray and ran some tests. His x-ray wasn’t great (showed some atelectasis, or collapsed areas of the lungs) but the blood tests showed that he’s doing ok. We are doing a daily inhaler now so hopefully that will help!
We saw Dr. Peeples again in the newborn clinic on Friday. Mason is doing well. But he’s not growing as well as they want. Basically it’s ok that they boys are at the bottom of the growth chart as long as they stay on their own growth curves. Mason has “fallen off” his curve some. So we are going up to 26 calories per ounce on the formula to hopefully help him gain weight. And we’re starting weight checks now. Grow Mason grow!!
Pictures of Mason from the past month!

Not sure about tummy time

Mason LOVES this seat!

Logan:

Logan is a mess. That’s the best way to describe him. Ha! I call him my tiny dancer. Logan is usually happy but he has a BIG attitude!
What’s Logan been up to?
Rolling! Lots and lots of rolling! He sleeps on his belly about half the time now.
He rolled all the way from the playmat to here!
Babbling. He doesn’t say words yet but he is always making noise!
Spitting. Logan loves to blow raspberries ALL THE TIME!
Teething. At least I think he’s teething. No teeth but lots of drool.
Breathing on his own. All the time! Yay Logan!!
Logan doesn’t smile often but it’s so cute when he does! He started scrunching his nose when he smiles and it’s the cutest thing I’ve ever seen! You can see it in his 9 month picture above.
Logan also went to the pulmonologist this month. We scheduled this appointment months ago. Dr. Peeples thought he could benefit from pulmonology following him because he has chronic lung disease too and he has needed oxygen for so long. The pulmonologist gave us the ok to stop oxygen at night. (If you remember, Dr. Peeples gave us the go-ahead to stop oxygen in December. But we didn’t ever stop at night because all 3 boys got colds then Logan just wasn’t quite ready.)  So we stopped oxygen at night last Wednesday. He’s still on the pulse ox monitor. It still goes off some but he really only desats 1-2 times per night and he comes back up on his own. We’ve put his oxygen back on a few times but he’s doing really well overall!
Logan got a good report in newborn clinic this week! He’s doing great. But he’s also not growing as well as he should be so we’re going up to 26 calories per ounce on his formula too. We decided to go up on calories rather than volume because we’re already giving 8 ounce bottles. Mason and Logan get 3 bottles a day and nurse 1 time a day (yes we’re still going strong!)
Pictures of Logan:

 I found my feet!
Playing with the best big sister ever!
Jumping! Dad calls this my spaceship!

James:

James is the biggest again! He’s a mama’s boy (and a daddy’s boy too). He wants one of us holding him at all times! He’s also a big flirt! James is definitely the most advanced for gross motor skills!
What’s James up to?
Jumping. James loves to jump! He gets so excited when he’s in the jumper!
Talking. James finally found his voice and he babbles all the time now! So cute! His favorite sound is still the white noise sound though. I can tell when James is awake because I hear the white noise sound over the monitor! Ha!
Smiling. James is always smiling. And he smiles with his entire face and his eyes!
James has also started reaching to be picked up!
James didn’t go to the pulmonologist. His lungs aren’t as sick as his brothers because he wasn’t intubated as long in the NICU. Yay James! James got a great report from Dr. Peeples. He’s growing well and he’s actually moving up on his growth curve. Yay! We were a little worried because James projectile vomits his entire bottle every 2-3 nights (on Brian 99% of the time luckily). Apparently he’s getting enough though. James also loves to eat by spoon! I can’t feed him fast enough! I hope this continues!
Some pictures of James:

We also got developmental screenings at the newborn clinic. Basically a physical therapist came and evaluated all 3 boys for gross motor, fine motor, and vision (I think?). They did exactly how I expected. All 3 boys tested at 7 months for fine motor. For gross motor James tested at 7 months, Logan 6 months, and Mason 4 months. They are 6 months adjusted so this is on track. Mason tested low because he isn’t rolling over yet. But his physical therapist at school is a friend of mine and she isn’t worried about him so I’m not worried either. He’s been sick and that has set him back. He’ll get it!
And I’ll end with some funny pictures. I was in the kitchen one evening and I heard a commotion in the living room. James was on the play mat playing with the play gym and I looked over and saw this:
I ran over to him because I thought he’s be upset. Well I was wrong. He thought it was hilarious. I’m not really sure how he managed to knock it over on but here’s the rest of what happened. They’re blurry because James wouldn’t be still!

Ok sorry for the long post! I need to stay on top of my posts better this month! I have lots of things to post still! Coming up – My Favorite Things and The Triplet Baptism!
And of course a few more pictures and an outtake:
